The Muntjacs Section, named after the Muntjac Deer which are occasionally seen out on the course, is open to golfers with any active handicap, age 55 or over, and usually retired or semi retired.
The main golfing program is based around match play golf, played in a not too competitive, but friendly atmosphere with other golf clubs in the County. The matches are played on both a home and away basis and usually on a Monday morning.
Our matches are followed by lunch in the dining room with the home team responsible for their guests’ liquid refreshment.
As we represent the Club’s “Senior” section there is a dress code for lunch, of Jacket and Club tie, and we play in club, navy blue jumpers with a white polo/roll-neck shirt.
We currently have matches with 14 Clubs, playing 16 a side, four-ball better-ball, off the yellow tees. We also play matches against The Rabbits, and Ladies sections, as well as The “B” Team. Also during the season we have an internal knockout competition for the Archie Bush Trophy, and an end of year stableford competition for the Founders Cup.
Our full fixture list is posted on the Muntjacs Notice Board, located in the corridor adjacent to the men’s locker room. Individual fixtures will also be posted there, where you can indicate an interest and ability to play in that particular match: if selected, then also to positively confirm thereafter.
Teams are not chosen on a winning basis, but one to give all players a chance to play, with different partners where possible, in order to further team and social bonding. Playing in home matches also encourages selection for away fixtures.
The Captain of the Muntjacs for 2016 is John Parkes.
If you are interested in joining the Muntjacs for some friendly but competitive golf then please make contact with either of the above; you will be more than welcome.
